About Eisentraut Families
Please sign in to see more. Gotlieb Eisentraut was born in Saxony, Germany, on January 18, 1823. Here he courted and wed Rosina Augusta Freidel. After the birth of three children (Ernstina, Augusta and Charles) they migrated to America. This was about the year 1849, and they settled on a farm near Fillmore, WI. The original homestead is no longer in our family. Here four more children were born; Mary, Moritz, Oscar and Gustav.
One of Gotlieb's hobbies was planting fruit trees, especially apple and cherry. He built, alone and by hand, without the use of any mortar, just by perfect fitting and splitting, a windowless, stone-vaulted cellar that is still on the farm site.
According to Aunt Bert (Bertha Stautz) who stayed with Gotlieb and Rosina for some time, plowing was done by oxen and every time the dinner bell rang, the oxen would stop short and refuse to move another foot.
A tombstone marks the spot where they are buried in the cemetery at Fillmore, WI.
